  • NCERT books help students understand the concepts in the best way possible. They make students put effort to understand how the concepts can be applied in real life.
  • However, books by private authors mostly include only concise and direct facts and not the reasoning behind them.
  • NCERT books provide content on various topics in the form of chapters in a comprehensive way. The content is original and verified as well as presented in an organized format.
  • Students tend to get confused when they study from other reference books as they are comprised of excess information and students don’t have clarity in the basics.
  • After reading the NCERT books, students have already understood almost 70-80% of the concepts as they are written in a very easy and understandable language.
  • In conclusion, studying from NCERT books in class 11 lays a foundation for all the concepts you will study in 12th class. Building a strong base in concepts and theories is very important in 11th grade.

How to study from NCERT books in class 11

  1. 1. Syllabus
  1. Reading the chapters
  • Start with one subject you find most difficult. Now start with the important chapters first and make sure to read the whole chapters at least twice.
  • The reason behind reading the chapters is that it helps in giving you a gist of basically what the chapter is about and what topics are covered in that chapter. After one read, you already have a somewhat understanding those topics.
  • Read the chapters by paying attention to detail instead of just skimming through the pages.
  • Avoid highlighting or underlining everything when it’s the first time you are reading that chapter. Because you will not know what to mark as important.
  • Instead focus on understanding the content while reading it meticulously.
  1. Marking important details
  • After self-studying, highlight all the important definitions and concepts.
  • Also ask your subject teachers for help regarding this and mark all the important questions too.
  1. Don’t focus on one subject only
  • Always study at least 2-3 subjects simultaneously. Don’t focus on only a single subject.
  • For example, you have to practice mathematics daily, so you can add a language subject (English or Hindi) and one science/commerce/ humanities subject along with it. This way you will be covering more syllabus and you will learn better.
  • Studying only one subject for a long time decreases not only your focus but also your interest and determination to study that subject.
  1. Taking your time
  • Giving time to understand theories and concepts and then learning them is essential.
  • This way you can avoid confusion. As it will lay a foundation of basics in order to understand high-level topics with clarity.
  1. Making Notes
  • There is a reason why teachers stress about the importance of making notes.
  • Usually, when students are highlighting the important details in the chapters they tend to mark less or end up over-highlighting things. Then they avoid making notes and end up reading the whole chapters again at the time of exams.
  • Making organised notes after carefully marking the important concepts and questions with the guidance of the subject teacher is the key. This way you will not have to waste time by reading the whole chapters again before your exams. You can just go through your notes and be ready.
  1. Clearing Doubts
  • Make a list of all the doubts and concepts you find hard to comprehend.
  • Make sure to clear them either through your subject teachers or by watching e-learning videos provided online.
  • Clearing doubts is important because you will get confused in your exams if you don’t fully understand the concept.
  • Not all questions asked in the exams are directly from the books. So if you don’t have clarity in the concepts, you will not be able to answer the questions properly.
  1. 8. Revision
  • Revising what you have learnt from time to time ensures that you remember the information for longer time.
  • Doing regular revision also saves time and makes it easier to revise just before your exams.
  • Another way to do revision before your exams is solve the back exercises at the end of every chapter and practice papers at the end of the NCERT books. This will ensure a thorough revision and then you will be able to score maximum marks in your exams.
  1. Previous Year Question Papers
  • Arrange and look through all the previous year question papers of past 2-3 years.
  • They will help you understand the format in which the question papers are prepared, types of questions asked and their weightage.
  • After practicing these question papers, you will be able to form your answers while not deviating from the topic and write them with clarity.
