Windows XP is a great operating system. Microsoft has improved on the Windows XP operating system with many newer versions, but many people still prefer Windows XP. One of the reasons for this is because it is much cheaper than the newer versions. However, it can be difficult to find a product key for Windows XP. A product key is a unique 25-character code that identifies your copy of Windows XP. If you have lost the product key for your version of Windows, you can retrieve it by using one of these methods.

How did I get my Windows XP product key?
· The product key is on your original packaging or on the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) sticker affixed to your computer
· If not, it’s most likely located in the registry. You can find out where to look by going to Start > Run and entering “regedit.” Navigate through HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WPAEvents. Now do a search for “ProductId” from that list and then check the Data column to see what the Product ID is.
· In some cases, if you have an operating system CD with an installation disc, you may need to input a 25-character product key
Finding your product keys for any version of Windows

You don’t need a product key to install Windows. The installation DVD that comes with the operating system is a full installer that will work without a product key. However, you will need a product key to activate the OS after installation.
