The WhatsApp application certainly has a lot of requirements from its users who would like to see various features within the application itself. Still, one of the definitely most sought-after requirements is to switch the chat history from Android to iPhone and vice versa. Fortunately, WhatsApp will soon add that feature for many others. More precisely, it will have it in one direction.
Initially, only Samsung devices will have the call transfer tool, but other Android devices are expected to get it soon in the coming weeks and months.
Switch Chat History From IPhone to Android
Currently, WhatsApp allows you to switch chat history between devices that have the same operating system. On Android, WhatsApp saves a copy of the conversation on Google Drive while on iOS, it does so on iCloud. And that is why there are certain ‘complications’. If the conversations were stored on Facebook’s servers (for those who didn’t know – Facebook owns WhatsApp), this problem probably wouldn’t exist. But, about that on another occasion.
WhatsApp announced this new feature at the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event. Specifically, they announced the possibility of transferring data from iOS devices to Samsung devices. At the same event, that took place in mid-August, Samsung presented the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 devices, as well as the Galaxy Buds 2.
In addition to conversations, you will also be able to transfer voice memos, photos, and other multimedia content that you have in conversations. All this will be part of the migration process. Fortunately, GB WhatsApp Download will soon add that feature for many others. More precisely, it will have it in one direction
Furthermore, one of the problems that arise here is the fact that WhatsApp messages are encrypted end-to-end. So there will be work for WhatsApp, cell phone manufacturers, and other parties involved. Behind the seemingly simple process, there are many things that someone needs to take care of in order for everything to work as it should.
Initially Only Available on Samsung Flip Devices
For the first few weeks, the WhatsApp migration tool will be exclusively available on the aforementioned Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 devices. It will then expand to other Samsung devices that have Android 10 or later, and only after that to other Android devices. On Samsung devices, the migration tool will be integrated into the Smart Switch, which is Samsung’s data migration tool with which you can now transfer your contacts, messages, photos, videos, apps call logs, and other content.
Interestingly, Samsung will not provide the required USB-C o Lightning Cable with its devices, but you will have to buy it separately. Or, if you are lucky and switch from iPhone 12 to a new Samsung device, you can take advantage of Apple’s cable.
And lastly, it should be noted that WhatsApp will allow you to transfer conversations from iPhone to Android devices. There was no word at all that the data could go in the opposite direction, from Android to iPhone. The question is whether this option will ever be available, but we will see in time.
