Do you know there are certain acts you can’t perform during Umrah compared to normal life activities? Umrah doesn’t just require your preparation but also demands to follow instructions settled by Islamic traditions.
Performing Umrah is not only the primary purpose, but you will get mental satisfaction when you follow some etiquette. Millions of Muslims perform Umrah and can do it any time of the year by taking Umrah Packages.
A Muslim has to follow many etiquettes and dos and don’ts for a successful Umrah. So, here in this text, you will be clearing Umrah etiquettes: dos and don’ts to make a good pilgrimage journey. Let’s start reading without wasting further time.
What to Do during Umrah?
Usually, when you perform Umrah, the pre-requisite is wearing Ihram. Most of the Umrah restrictions are in the state of Ihram. You can do your normal lifestyle once you take off your Ihram attire.
Be respectful of other pilgrims:
Umrah can be very crowded, especially in the peak season. So, there can be very touchable activity among pilgrims. Be sure to avoid contacting other pilgrims, specifically women pilgrims. Be respectable to everyone regardless of their nationality or status. Also, make yourself available in the patience circle and kindness.
Focus on the worship properly:
One of the leading etiquette of Umrah is to focus on worship. Sometimes, there can be many uncertain situations, and we are attracted to them. Remember, holy cities can be busy, so you don’t have to lose your focus. Avoid distractions and focus on your worship because you are there to make your good bond with Allah (SWT).
Pray two Nafl Rakats on the station of Abraham:
Muslims are recommended to pray two Nafl Rakats in Maqam-e-Ibrahim (the station of Abraham). Most Muslims can do it because it is a very honourable act. But if you cannot perform here due to a crowd or any reason, you can pray anywhere in the Grand Mosque of Mecca. Please follow the rules, do things as it is, and not be distracted by other pilgrims. You will find this place near the Holy Kaaba and it is very popular destination in Masjid Al-Haram after Holy Kaaba.
Make Dua and other supplications during Umrah:
A Muslim should spend most of the time in supplications while in Umrah. A pilgrimage is incomplete without making Duas and supplications for your family, friends, and Muslim community. All of you know it’s a significant journey, and praying it is respectable.
What to avoid during Umrah?
You have to take care of many things and avoid them even if it happens uncertainly.
Don’t fight/dispute during Umrah:
Umrah is a calm and spiritual journey, so Muslims should respect it as it deserves. While in the state of Ihram, a pilgrim should make arguments and disputes with other people. It’s against the rule of Ihram and the Saudi authorities, but if the situation happens and you are right from your side, try to solve the issue with Islamic laws and ask the authority person. Don’t use bad words for others, as the penalty of Saudi Arabia is very harsh.
Note: If by mistake or for any reason one’s hotel is far away from the Grand Mosque and he has put on his Ihram, now the limit of Umrah has been applied to him. It is better to do Umrah first, not to be confused with hotel staff and absolute agent. Then request to change your location according to the booking of Umrah packages. That is why it is recommended to approach a reliable travel agency (Labbaik Hajj Umrah) for booking your Umrah package.
Avoid using perfumes/fragrances:
Umrah doesn’t require any perfume or fragrance in the state of Ihram. It just requires spiritual purity, so you should avoid using fragrances. This includes any type of perfume, such as colognes, aftershaves, deodorants, etc.
Raising your voice loudly is not allowed:
Speaking loudly is prohibited in sacred places, whether Masjid Al-Haram or any holy place. Try to speak or raise your voice sparingly. Talk politely with each other; the best is not to talk during mosques as it’s not recommended.
Some other don’ts that you have to know:
- The holy Kaaba is a sacred site; treat it with complete respect.
- Don’t sell goods or services inside the Grand Mosque or Masjid An-Nabwi, but you can kindly offer dates to others (mainly in Medina).
- Don’t take pictures/videos of others without permission.
- Not split or urine inside the holy places. It’s prohibited. Otherwise, you may have to face a penalty.
Follow the rules whenever you go to a new destination, whether it’s an Umrah journey or any other. And anyway, as a Muslim, you should show politeness etiquettes everywhere. Make sure to know about the Umrah etiquettes before you depart. You may also learn about other dos and don’ts from online platforms, scholars, reading books, etc. Have a well etiquette Umrah!
