How to Trade Forex From Pakistan, India or the Gulf

Trading forex from Pakistan, India or the Middle East starts with one question. What does the law in your country actually allow? The rules differ sharply across the region. In some places, trading through an offshore website can break local foreign exchange law.

This guide sums up the main rules and shows how the global sessions fit your time zone. It also lists the checks to make before you open any account. It is general information, not legal advice.

Start with the law, not the platform

Online adverts make forex look borderless. Regulators see it differently. Several in this region have issued public warnings about unlicensed platforms that target local residents.

A broker can hold a licence somewhere else and still be unauthorised where you live. So always check the register of your own national regulator before you send money anywhere.

Trading forex from India

The Reserve Bank of India says residents may only carry out permitted forex deals through trading platforms it has authorised, or on recognised exchanges. Trading on unauthorised platforms can lead to action under the Foreign Exchange Management Act.

For most retail traders, the legal route is exchange traded currency derivatives through a broker registered with SEBI. The National Stock Exchange offers futures and options on USD/INR, EUR/INR, GBP/INR and JPY/INR. It also offers EUR/USD, GBP/USD and USD/JPY.

The Reserve Bank also publishes an Alert List of firms that are not authorised to offer forex trading. A platform missing from that list is not automatically approved. So confirm its status directly.

Trading forex from Pakistan

In 2022, the State Bank of Pakistan said residents are banned from buying products from offshore forex and CFD platforms. It also told banks to stop processing payments to such platforms.

The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan has often warned the public about unlicensed online platforms. It says trading in securities and commodities should go through brokers it has licensed. You can check those brokers on the Pakistan Stock Exchange and Pakistan Mercantile Exchange websites.

Trading forex from the Middle East

The United Arab Emirates has several regulators. On the mainland, the Securities and Commodities Authority became the Capital Market Authority from 1 January 2026. Firms in the Dubai International Financial Centre answer to the DFSA. Those in Abu Dhabi Global Market answer to the FSRA.

In Saudi Arabia, the Capital Market Authority and the Saudi Central Bank have warned residents against unlicensed forex activity. They point the public to lists of licensed firms on their own websites.

Swap free accounts

Many traders in the region prefer accounts without overnight interest. Some brokers offer swap free accounts. But they may replace the swap with wider spreads or an admin fee. Ask how the account is priced before you open it. Put the same question to any other provider, including a 2 step prop firm, before you pay a fee.

Matching sessions to your time zone

None of these countries change their clocks, which makes planning simpler. The times below assume the northern winter, when London opens at 08:00 GMT.

  • Pakistan (GMT+5): the London open falls at 13:00. The London and New York overlap runs from 18:00 to 22:00.
  • India (GMT+5:30): the London open falls at 13:30. The overlap runs from 18:30 to 22:30.
  • United Arab Emirates (GMT+4): the London open falls at 12:00. The overlap runs from 17:00 to 21:00.
  • Saudi Arabia (GMT+3): the London open falls at 11:00. The overlap runs from 16:00 to 20:00.

During the northern summer, London and New York move one hour earlier in local terms. Indian exchange traded contracts follow their own exchange hours, so check the current timetable.

Prop firm accounts and payments abroad

Prop firm accounts raise their own legal questions in this region. Paying a fee to an overseas company may fall under foreign exchange rules. So may receiving payouts from it, depending on where you live.

Before signing up for an instant funded account or similar product, check how local law treats those payments. Also confirm that your bank will process them. When the rules are unclear, ask a qualified local adviser first.

A checklist before you start

  • Confirm the provider is licensed by your own national regulator, not only abroad.
  • Search the official warning lists from your regulator or central bank.
  • Avoid anyone promising sure returns through social media or messaging apps.
  • Understand how swaps, fees and currency conversions affect your results.
  • Keep records of every deposit, withdrawal and payout for tax purposes.

Forex can be traded legally from much of this region. But the permitted route is often narrower than adverts suggest. Check the rules first and choose a properly licensed provider. Then plan your trading around the sessions that suit your day.
