Emergencies can happen at any given time and usually occur with little to no warning. Emergency situations can range from prolonged power outages in the area to natural disasters. When an emergency does strike, will you have a proper emergency kit with all the essential emergency kit items to ensure you’re prepared?

There are several items needed for emergency preparedness, no matter what the emergency is. In the guide below, you’ll find a list of some of those essential emergency items.

Continue reading to start putting your emergency kit together!

1. Portable Solar Generator

A portable solar generator is an essential item to have because you can use it to restore power whether you’re inside your home or somewhere else. They can be used when camping or when in an RV and they can come in handy during blackouts.

Other than being portable, these generators are also solar-powered. This is ideal because the sun will power the generators for you. The next time the power goes out, you won’t have to panic.

2. Bottled Water and Non-Perishables

When a natural disaster strikes, one of the first things to go off the shelves is bottled water. The next things to clear off the shelves are non-perishables. Do yourself a favor and have these items pre-stocked in your emergency kit so you don’t have to battle the crowds.

You should have enough water for a gallon of water per person each day. The amount will depend on how many people are in your home. The best food items to have in an emergency kit should be canned food and anything that won’t go bad.

3. A Full First Aid Kit

A full first aid kit is something every home should have multiples of. You’ll want to have a first aid kit in your car, in your home, and one in your emergency kit as well. The first aid kit should be full at all times.

You may need to replace items occasionally. Check your kit every year and replace expired items with new ones. Don’t forget to have all necessary medications in your kit as well.

If a natural disaster were to hit and you couldn’t get to the pharmacy, would you have enough medications to last you a few weeks?

4. A Good Amount of Cash

Having some cash in your emergency kit will prove beneficial. If there’s no power and banks are shut down for any reason, then you’ll want to have some cash on you. You’ll need to use cash for important situations such as paying for gas or food when possible.

Stock Up on These Emergency Items

Before an emergency happens, stock up on these emergency items. Have these items prepared and ready for use in your emergency kit. The list above is of a few items to have in case of emergency.

When you have these items in your home, you’ll be prepared for a variety of emergency situations.
