What Are the Different Types of Dumpsters That Exist Today?

Are you having a new construction project, and you’re wondering which type of dumpster to go for? Several factors come to play when choosing the ideal waste containers for your specific project. Without a sound understanding of the different types of dumpsters, the process can be mentally draining.

The dumpster you intend to consider is dependent on the size and type of waste. You need to brush up your knowledge around the different options you have to ensure you make the right decision.

Read along to get an understanding of the different types of dumpsters that exist today.

Front Load Dumpster

As the name suggests, the front-load dumpster inclines at the front to make it easy to drop trash in. They have slots on each side to facilitate transportation by the garbage truck. The truck attaches itself to the spikes on the sides which lock in to allow the truck to lift the dumpster over to empty it.

Rear Load Dumpster

Unlike a front-load dumpster which slants at the front, a rear load dumpster slants at the back and has extending poles. It uses a hinge and winch system to dump the contents of the dumpster into the truck. The truck has to be attached to the dumpster manually; then, it rises it upwards to offload the waste.

Their tall design makes it capable of holding much more trash and can fit in narrow pathways. The rear slant makes it a bit challenging to dump waste into the dumpster. Rear loading dumpsters are around three to eight cubic yards.

Roll-Off Dumpsters

A Roll off dumpster is rectangular with an open-top extending to about forty yards. They utilize wheels at the bottom to roll the dumpster at its designated place from the truck. The dumpster is designed in such a way that it requires a special roll-off truck for its transportation.

After the dumpster gets loaded, a cable and a winch system pull the dumpster on the roll-off truck. If the truck doesn’t use a winch system, a robotic arm gets used instead to hook the dumpster then lift it to the roll-off truck.

In most cases, a roll-off dumpster is used in carrying construction debris and demolition waste. If you have a new construction project coming up, you’ll need one of these. You can leverage such equipment by contacting a dumpster rental company.

Specialty Dumpsters

Specialty dumpsters range in size from ten to twenty yards, and they have rubber tires. They are typically attached to a truck which then pulls it behind. They’re preferred for home projects, especially in areas where it’s hard to maneuver.

Trash Compactors

These are dumpsters that use compaction mechanisms to reduce the size of waste materials. Since they are good at waste management, they can be used as commercial dumpsters or residential dumpsters. The residential compactor is small, but it comes with a hydraulic mechanism that compacts the trash bin once it’s filed to create more space.
