This article is brought to you by a leading (UK based) travel agency, Flights to Frankfurt, to give their expert recommendations about the nine of the best places from which you can enjoy the best views of the city and its skyline.
1. Main Tower
Take the elevator to the 200-meter-high viewing platform of the Main Towers in the city centre and discover the city from above. In the south you can see the tallest building in Germany, the 259 meter high Commerzbank Tower and to the north you can see the towers of the banking district.
2. Goetheturm
Once the 196 steps of the Goetheturm have been climbed, an impressive view over the Frankfurt green belt and the skyline is revealed. The 43-meter-high wooden tower stands in the Waldspielpark in Sachsenhausen. On hot days, children can cool off in a paddling pool or explore the maze with green belt animals.
3. Lohrberg and Lohrpark
If you like something more idyllic, you can take a look at the skyline of the city from a distance in the Lohrpark. The Lohrberg is about 185 meters high and belongs to the district Seckbach. The city park of the vineyard invites you for a bike ride or a picnic in the countryside.
4. Long Island Summer Lounge
On the sundeck of the Long Island Summer Lounge you can spend nice evenings high above the rooftops of Frankfurt. In the restaurant on the roof of the parking garage stock exchange on the sixth floor you have a spectacular overview of the city center and the shiny facades of the skyscrapers. The entrance fee is 5 euros
5. Kaufhof Terrace
How about a cozy breakfast with panoramic views in the heart of Frankfurt? The Leonhard’s restaurant, located on the seventh floor of the Galeria Kaufhof in the city center, brings you closer to the skyline: in front of you the glass towers of the city center, the Hauptwache directly at your feet.
6. City Beach
Urban summer feeling combined with a magnificent view – you will find it on the parking deck of the Konstablerwache. Five floors above the shopping street Zeil is the beach bar City Beach. With a cocktail in the pool and the view over an illuminated skyline you can live quite well. Admission 4 euros
6. Iron Bridge
Below you the roaring Main and the skyline in the background: No wonder so many lovers attach their locks to the Iron-bridge. The connecting bridge between the Römerberg and Sachsenhausen offers a unique panoramic view. It is especially romantic here at sunset.
7. Skyline Plaza
Shop first, then enjoy the view or vice versa? The observation deck of the Skyline Plaza shopping center next to the exhibition center offers one of the most beautiful views of the Frankfurt skyline and the Europaviertel. The platform is still above the Skyline Garden, the green roof terrace of the shopping mall. In good weather you can look into the Taunus
8. Cathedral
Twenty-three steps spiral staircase and 66 vertical meters – that’s what it takes to get to the viewing platform of St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral. Once at the top you will be rewarded with a panoramic view over the river Main and the city center. Cost: 3 euros
9. Rest area Taunusblick
There are many passing by, but only a few stopped and got out. The service area Taunusblick on the A5 between the Bad Homburger Kreuz and the Nordwest Kreuz Frankfurt scores points with its barrier-free lookout tower. From here you have a perfect view of the Taunus and the Frankfurt skyline in the distance. The 25 vertical meters can be overcome either via the 100-step staircase or the elevator.
