Do All ADA Signs Need Braille?

There are around 2.5 million people across America who are labeled as legally blind. This means that they can still see, but their vision is almost gone. There are also a lot more people who suffer from eye disorders that cause them to have limited vision. The Americans with Disabilities Act, or ADA, is working hard to create ADA signs that provide these people with large, bright, bold lettering, braille, and lettering that stands out so that they can see them and depict what they are.

    ADA Signs And Braille

Although a lot of the signs have Braille and tactical lettering on them to help people out with reading them there is a lot of ADA signs that do not. These signs are not required to have Braille and tactical letting, but the organization knows and understands that this does help out in a large way they also design signs that do not need them. Some of these signs include:

    • Street signs
    • Building addresses
    • Temporary signs

These signs are very important. If it was not for these signs then the people who have trouble seeing would not be able to find the correct doctors office, hospital room, school room, and much more. Having Braille on the smaller lettering of the signs helps the people be able to read everything on the signs.

    Enforcement Of ADA Laws

With so many people suffering from vision problems and needing things like signs from the ADA to help them with locating where they need to be and with identifying things such as the right bathroom to use there have been some laws put into play. These laws are enforced by the Department of Justice and local code inspectors. If you do not follow the ADA laws you will be faced with fines that can add up to $50,000. This type of fine is very rare, but it can happen.

Having Signs Made By The ADA

Having a sign made by the ADA comes with a lot of rules and requirements. Every permanent space you have will have to be marked with and ADA compliant sign. Some rooms within your building will never change their function such as a bathroom, exit areas, etc. If you have a question on whether or not a room should be marked with a sign then mark it with a sign to be safe.

Making Your Sign Compliant With The ADA

When making your sign you want to make sure that it is compliant with the ADA. This does not mean that you cannot design in any way that you want. Your ADA sign can be unique and anything that you want it to be. Add logos, use your own text, anything that you want. Making the signs is quick and easy.

ADA compliant signs are used in many businesses across America. They help out a lot people. Whether you are making your own sign or have a premade one ordered and placed within your business you should always make sure that you have one available.

The ADA themselves keep signs of all colors and designs stocked and ready to be shipped out, so if you need a sign in a hurry and do not have time to make your own contact them for what you have in mind. They will be able to help you help others. A lot of people will greatly appreciate you taking the time to put these signs in your business.
