Dell Latitude 7400 2-in-1 Review

Dell Latitude 7400 2-in-1 Review

Dell’s new 7400 2-in-1 is another one of Dell’s overpriced business-oriented laptops. The laptop doesn’t have any unique features that might make it stand out from the crowd, the 7400 is basically a laptop with really awesome built quality and average performance. No matter what configuration you choose, the laptop only offers either an i5 processor and i7 processor but the sad part about putting a lot of money and purchasing this laptop is that there is no dedicated GPU option available for better performance. The base variant of the 14 inches Dell latitude 7400 2-in-1 is available right now for $1,599 while on the other hand, the most advanced variant of the laptop is available on Dell’s website for $2,489. But is it worth putting this much amount of money on this laptop? Well, let’s find out in our full review for Dell’s Latitude 7400 2-in-1.

Design and Features

Well, the design is probably one of the best things about the dell latitude 7400 2-in-1, the laptop has a rock-solid tank-like design that is simplistic and appealing to the eye. the back of the lid of the laptop houses the Dell logo in the center and other than that there is nothing on the back. If we talk about the deck, the deck houses the keyboard and the trackpad. The keyboard has a normal layout just like a good keyboard should have although there is no dedicated number pad in the keyboard like most of the other laptops these days. The keys are big enough not the biggest but they get the work done. Other than being big the keys are surprising deep as well, again there are many other laptops out there with better keyboards but this one, in particular, isn’t bad either. Talking about the Trackpad, the trackpad is located right at the bottom of the keyboard and let’s face it, the trackpad is small but on the other hand, the trackpad is quite smooth and runs on windows precision drivers as well.  The deck feels a little, just a little congested but that is forgivable. The power button is positioned on the top right corner of the deck and there is no fingerprint reader for additional security. The speakers are located at the bottom of the chassis on this laptop and are quite loud considering their location.

Talking about the screen, the screen is another good thing about the Dell Latitude 7400. The bezels on the side are quite thin and the top and the bottom chin are surprisingly thin as well. The webcam is placed on the top chin in the center, right where it is supposed to be. The webcam does have Infra-red meaning that the laptop does support windows hello for additional security, aside from an IR sensor there is also a proximity sensor available as well. The screen is a 14 inches FHD 1920 x 1080 touch panel with a considerably low brightness at about 270 nits. The overall output of the screen is quite good even with its low brightness but the colors can get quite distorted at different viewing angles.

Performance and Specifications

The Laptop can be bought in many configurations but as mentioned earlier there is nothing much about this laptop that makes it stand out of other laptops. According to the configurations mentioned on Dell’s official website, the laptop can be bought with up to 16 GB of RAM, up to 512 GB of SSD storage. If you don’t want to buy a 2-in-1 laptop there is also a normal variant available and if that’s not enough the laptop comes in 3 screen sizes: 12-inches, 13-inches, and 14-inches. There are also two processor variants available for this laptop namely an Intel Core i5-8265U and an Intel Core i7-8665U but no matter what variant you purchase you will only get Intel integrated UHD 620 graphics.

The performance on the laptop is fair. We can’t forget that this is a business-oriented laptop and it has most of the features that a business laptop should have. Day to day performance on this laptop is good there is not much thermal throttling but this is definitely not a machine that can handle games. The battery life on this thing is also one of the best, the battery is a 72-watt battery and it should get you about 24 hours of battery life depending upon your usage. Verdict

The Dell latitude 7400 2-in-1 is a good laptop with a solid build quality, elegant design, and a phenomenal battery life and if you’re looking for something like this you can definitely purchase the latitude 7400 2-in-1 but then again the laptop is a little overpriced if we look at its specifications and performance. The screen despite having a nice design and thin bezels isn’t really bright enough. So, the only thing here that could be a problem for some people is the price because there are many other good laptops available in this price range that could offer better graphics performance and a better screen but other than that the Dell latitude 7400 might outshine them.
