In this modern socio-economic structure, taxes play a major role in our day-to-day lives. Vehicles are also not an exemption. Various non-transport & transport vehicles need to pay taxes to the Government to maintain the roads & highways. These taxes also count towards a better nation-building process. This article focuses on the major points of various road taxes payable in Rajasthan.
- Non –Transport and Transport Vehicles paying one-time tax — In Rajasthan, 8% of the Vehicle cost is levied on two-wheelers up to 200cc engine capacity. For 200-500cc two-wheelers, the tax is 13% & for more than 500cc two-wheelers, it is a whopping 18% of the Vehicle cost. For 3-wheeler transport or non-transport vehicles, the tax varies between Rs. 6000-8000, depending upon the seating capacity. For Four Wheelers, the tax is up to 8% for Petrol & Diesel vehicles (Upto 800cc).
- Green Tax – Road Tax in Rajasthan also includes Green Tax. For 2 wheelers, four-wheeled diesel vehicles, and LMVs up to 2000cc engine capacity, the tax is counted at the time of registration under Section 41 or assignment under Section 47 of the Motor Vehicles act, 1988(Central Act No. 59 of 1988) and under sub-section(10) of Section 41 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 after the renewal of the certificate.
- Surcharge – Vehicles need to pay 12.5% of the total payable road tax in Rajasthan as a surcharge even though they are first-time taxpayers or not.
- Other Taxes – If the vehicles registered under Rajasthan Transport Department are under the possession of manufacturers or dealers, they need to pay a tax of Rs.4000 per 100 two-wheelers and Rs. 8000 per 50 three or four-wheelers they are part of (According to Notification No. F6(179) Pari/Tax/HQ/95/5B/DT 31.03.2000)
